Investor highlights dividend stocks as a hedge against volatility
Dividend stocks can help investors navigate market swings with steadier income See why ClearBridge favors names like Blackstone, Otis and Marsh for long-term growth
A ClearBridge Investments portfolio manager said diversified dividend stocks can help investors navigate market swings, pointing to their steadier income and potential to offset inflation.
The comments came as U.S. markets reached record levels while oil prices rose on renewed geopolitical concerns. The manager said dividend growth can provide a more predictable return profile when uncertainty is high.
He also pointed to several holdings he views as attractive after recent share declines, including Blackstone, Otis Worldwide and Marsh. He said each company has qualities he sees as supportive of longterm income investing, including strong business models, dividend yields and exposure to areas he believes are less vulnerable to disruption.
