Air Canada cuts several U.S. routes as fuel costs rise

Air Canada is reducing service on several U.S. routes this fall and winter as higher jet fuel prices and softer demand affect transborder travel. The airline said it will cancel or delay eight routes, including three flights from Toronto and Montreal to Midwestern U.S. cities, three seasonal Florida routes that will begin later than planned, and two suspended New York JFK routes that will not return this winter. The changes follow earlier capacity cuts by Air Canada, WestJet and Air Transat after fuel prices increased during the Iran war. Air Canada said it reviews its schedule regularly to match demand and seasonal travel patterns, and it expects to restore service to JFK in the future. In the meantime, it plans to add more flights between Toronto Billy Bishop and LaGuardia Airport.
