Plastic surgeons warn AI-generated face images can create unrealistic expectations
AI-edited cosmetic surgery images raise unrealistic expectations for patients See what Canadian surgeons say about safe results, body image, and limits
Some Canadian plastic surgeons say more patients are arriving with AIedited images of themselves and asking for cosmetic procedures that may not be possible in real life.
Doctors interviewed by CBC News said these images can make modest changes look achievable, while hiding the limits of human anatomy and surgery. They caution that features such as skin thickness, age, healing, and overall health all affect what results can safely be achieved.
Surgeons also warned that AIgenerated inspiration could worsen body image concerns or push some people toward unsafe treatment options. At the same time, some doctors say AI may still be useful if it helps patients communicate their goals clearly and is used alongside realistic medical advice.
