Rajakovic says Kawhi Leonard remains day to day ahead of Raptors’ preseason opener

Kawhi Leonard update: Raptors remain cautious as preseason opener nears Toronto weighs his status vs. Miami while key players test the roster and build momentum

QUEBEC CITY — Toronto Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic said Kawhi Leonard is still being handled on a daytoday basis as the team prepares for its preseason opener against the Miami Heat on Saturday. Leonard, who returned to Toronto in a summer trade from the Los Angeles Clippers, has not yet taken part in fullcontact drills at camp. Rajakovic said the team is being cautious with the veteran forward, making it unclear whether he will play in Quebec City. The Raptors wrapped up their final practice at Laval University on Friday after a soldout intrasquad game the night before. Rajakovic said most regular players are expected to see action against Miami as Toronto begins evaluating its roster against outside competition. The coach also said the team has high expectations entering the new season, while guard Immanuel Quickley noted that Leonard’s twoway style has influenced the way he approaches the game. Toronto will continue training camp in British Columbia after the matchup in Quebec City before facing Leonard’s former team, the Clippers, in Vancouver on Oct. 10.
