Iowa Republican gubernatorial nominee Zach Lahn is drawing renewed attention after a 2009 town hall exchange with thenPresident Barack Obama resurfaced online following his primary win.
Lahn, then a University of Colorado Boulder student, questioned Obama about how private insurers could compete with a governmentbacked health care option during the debate over the Affordable Care Act. Obama said he would not support a public option of that kind, and the proposal was later left out of the law.
In a Fox News Digital interview, Lahn said he was a politically engaged college student at the time and recalled being surprised by the attention the clip received. He also said his campaign now focuses on issues such as family farms, young people leaving Iowa, education, and the state’s cancer rate as he prepares for a general election matchup with Democratic Auditor Rob Sand.
