San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini has agreed to a fiveyear, $94 million US contract extension, a deal that will keep him with the team through the 203132 season and make him the highestpaid player in NHL history by average annual value.
Celebrini, 20, had one year left on his entrylevel contract. He joined the Sharks as the No. 1 pick in 2024 and has quickly become one of the league’s top young players, setting franchise and agebased scoring records last season.
Sharks general manager Mike Grier said the team views Celebrini as a central part of its longterm core. San Jose still missed the playoffs last season, but the club has added more young talent and several veteran players as it tries to build toward future success.
