B.C. Conservatives say they are united after snap election call
British Columbia election: Lorne Doerkson says Conservatives are united and ready to challenge Eby, calling the snap vote costly and unnecessary
British Columbia Conservative interim leader Lorne Doerkson says the party is united and prepared for the province’s Oct. 24 snap election. He said the group has moved past the final weeks of KerryLynne Findlay’s leadership.
Doerkson, who replaced Findlay on Sunday, said NDP Leader David Eby will regret calling the early vote. Eby has said the election is needed because of tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump and because voters should have a say in the province’s direction.
Doerkson argued the Conservatives have been too soft in responding to Trump and called the election expensive and unnecessary, though he said it gives voters a chance for change. He also said the party has brought back several legislators who had left the caucus or been removed, while former Surrey mayor Linda Hepner has said she will not run again. Three NDP cabinet ministers have also announced they will not seek reelection.
