Power the Future urges lawmakers to investigate data center opposition funding
Data center opposition funding is under scrutiny as lawmakers probe outside money See how pro-energy groups say donor rules may hide who’s behind the push
Power the Future, a proenergy advocacy group, is asking congressional leaders to examine whether outside money is helping finance campaigns against new data centers in the United States.
In a letter to House Oversight Chairman James Comer and Sen. Rand Paul, both Republicans from Kentucky, the group called for formal investigations into funding that it says is backing nonprofits and local organizations opposing data center expansion on environmental grounds.
The group argues that the opposition is not purely grassroots and says the buildout of data and AI infrastructure is important for jobs, tax revenue and U.S. competitiveness. It also says lawmakers should look at whether nonprofit donor rules are making it harder to track where the money is coming from.
