Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his Washington, D.C. trip remained busy even after a planned reception at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce was canceled because of scheduling conflicts.
Ford was in the U.S. capital on Monday and Tuesday for meetings tied to his Fortress North America plan, including talks with the American Automotive Policy Council, the American Farm Bureau Federation and Autos Drive America. He said he did not meet with anyone from the Trump administration during the trip.
The visit came as Canada and the United States continue talks on renewing CUSMA, the trade deal that governs much of North American trade. Ford said he wants a quick outcome that supports freer trade, while critics in Ontario questioned whether the trip delivered much practical value.
