The Village of Clinton was placed under an evacuation alert on Wednesday afternoon because of the nearby Fiftynine Creek wildfire. The Thompson Nicola Regional District also expanded an evacuation order and an evacuation alert for the Bonaparte Plateau area in Electoral Area E. The wildfire is estimated at 10,277 hectares and was first discovered on July 17. Officials believe lightning started the fire. Residents under evacuation alert are being told to prepare to leave quickly, pack essential items and make plans for pets and livestock. The Village of Clinton is also holding a community hall information session on Thursday at 6 p.m. to review evacuation preparedness.
