U.A.E. launches investigation into FlyDubai incident
FlyDubai Flight FZ1073 investigation after cockpit stabbing and emergency diversion U.A.E. probes motives, possible terror link, and how passengers regained control
The United Arab Emirates prosecutor general has ordered an investigation into the incident aboard FlyDubai Flight FZ1073, which was traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv and was diverted to Saudi Arabia after an altercation in the cockpit.
According to state media, investigators will examine the circumstances and motives behind the attack, including whether it involved any terrorist purpose or prior planning. The U.A.E. said it has jurisdiction because the aircraft is registered in the country and operates under its flag.
The incident drew international attention after a copilot stabbed the captain and the plane briefly plunged before passengers and crew regained control and landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Israeli officials said they believed the attacker may have been trying to crash the plane, while FlyDubai urged caution against early speculation.
