Premier Lacrosse League Eyes Team Sales by 2028
Premier Lacrosse League ownership stakes could open by 2028 as the league expands Explore the PLL’s growth plan, expansion outlook and Olympic boost behind the move
The Premier Lacrosse League plans to begin selling team ownership stakes to individuals or groups by 2028, or shortly after, cofounder Paul Rabil told CNBC.
Rabil said the league could grow from eight teams to as many as 16 over the next decade, with each franchise eventually owned separately, moving away from the current singleentity model in which the league owns the teams.
The PLL, now in its eighth season, was formed by Rabil and his brother Mike, and merged with Major League Lacrosse in 2020. It is among several newer sports leagues using a similar ownership structure before opening teams to outside buyers.
The league recently raised $100 million in a Series E funding round. Rabil said the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics could help raise the sport’s profile, noting that lacrosse tickets for the Games sold quickly in the first allocation.
