Brendan Gallagher says he is ready to leave Canadiens

Brendan Gallagher eyes a fresh start after 14 Canadiens seasons and 991 games See why the veteran winger is ready to move on and what comes next for him

Brendan Gallagher says he is preparing to move on from the Montreal Canadiens after 14 seasons with the team. The veteran winger made the comments during lockerroom cleanout after Montreal’s thirdround playoff exit on June 1, 2026. Gallagher became emotional as he reflected on the support the organization gave him after the death of his mother, Della, last season. He said his role has changed on a younger Canadiens roster and that he now needs to “find a new home” in the NHL. The Edmonton native was selected by Montreal in the 2010 NHL draft and went on to play 911 regularseason games and 79 playoff games for the club. He also helped the Canadiens reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2021. He has one year left on his contract.
