Ethereum Institutional backs proposal to shorten block times
Ethereum block times could soon drop to 10 seconds as institutional use grows onchain. Explore Ethlabs’ Quick Slots proposal and see why faster confirmations matter now.
Ethereum Institutional has voiced support for Ethlabs’ proposal to reduce Ethereum block times, saying faster processing could help the network handle growing institutional use.
In a post on X, the nonprofit said Ethereum should move faster as more institutional activity shifts onchain. Ethlabs also cited support from 20 DeFi founders for EIP8198, or “Quick Slots,” which would initially cut block times from 12 seconds to 10 seconds.
The proposal is being considered alongside other network speedup efforts across the blockchain sector. Ethereum developers could begin work on the Hegotá upgrade later in 2026, after the planned Glamsterdam upgrade, as the network continues to focus on scalability and faster confirmations.
