Dean Penney was sentenced on Friday in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years after being convicted of firstdegree murder.
The case concerns the death of his estranged wife, Jennifer HillierPenney, who disappeared in 2016 from the home they once shared in St. Anthony. At trial, prosecutors said the killing was planned and deliberate, while Penney maintained his innocence and said his comments to undercover officers were made under pressure.
The conviction followed an eightweek trial that included testimony from undercover police officers involved in a longrunning sting operation. HillierPenney's family also had the opportunity to present victim impact statements at the sentencing hearing.
