Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick barred from federal contracts after fraud allegations
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick suspension: DHS blocks federal funds after FEMA fraud See why the indictment could reshape her comeback bid and Florida’s November race
Former Rep. Sheila CherfilusMcCormick, a Florida Democrat, has been suspended from receiving federal contracts, grants, aid, or other government funding after allegations tied to a $5 million FEMA fraud case.
The Department of Homeland Security said the suspension also applies to her brother, Edwin Cherfilus, and other associated entities named in the indictment. DHS said the action is meant to protect taxpayer money while the legal process continues.
CherfilusMcCormick resigned from Congress in late April after a House ethics probe intensified, but she has denied wrongdoing and is still running to reclaim her seat in Florida this November. She was indicted in November 2025 over allegations that pandemic relief funds were diverted into campaign activity.
