Coyote attack in Whitby: toddler bitten at a playground, police say Stay alert near parks and trails as officers warn of more coyote sightings
Police say a twoyearold boy was bitten in the face by a coyote at a playground in Whitby, Ont., on Sunday evening.
Durham Region police said officers and paramedics were called to Vanier Park around 8:30 p.m. after the animal entered the play area and attacked the child. The coyote was driven away by the boy’s guardian and nearby bystanders.
Police also said a second coyote was found nearby less than an hour later in distress and was removed by officers. No other injuries were reported, and residents are being asked to stay alert around parks and trails, especially at dawn and dusk.
