Arson suspect arrested in Spokane wildfire investigation

Spokane arson arrest follows the Old Trails Fire investigation in Washington See how a public tip helped identify a suspect as evacuations and damage mount

Police in Spokane, Washington, have arrested a 37yearold man in connection with a wildfire that destroyed hundreds of homes and forced thousands of evacuations. Spokane County Sheriff John Nowells said officers executed arrest and search warrants and took Aaron Farinacci into custody on a firstdegree arson charge. Investigators said a public tip helped identify him, and he was reportedly seen near the area where the fire began on Saturday. The Old Trails Fire is one of three major blazes burning in the Spokane area, where around 67,000 people have been ordered to leave and at least 700 structures have been destroyed. Authorities said the investigation into the fire’s cause is still ongoing, along with probes into two other nearby fires.
