Cultus Lake Waterpark electrical incident leaves 12 youths hospitalized in B.C. RCMP and safety agencies are investigating; see the latest on the Chilliwack park closure.
Multiple agencies are investigating an electrical incident at Cultus Lake Waterpark in Chilliwack, B.C., after 12 youths were taken to hospital on Monday. The park remained closed on Tuesday while RCMP, WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety B.C. reviewed the site.
The incident happened around 11:20 a.m. PT as Grade 6 and 7 students from Minnekhada Middle School lined up for a ride. Officials said two of the injured students were taken by air ambulance, and their injuries were described as serious but stable.
The school district said the students were receiving medical care with their families and that counselling support was being offered at the school. WorkSafeBC issued a stopwork order, and Technical Safety B.C. said it was carrying out a detailed assessment. B.C. Hydro said the electrical issue appeared to be on the customer's side of service, not with its equipment, and referred questions to investigators.
