Blue Jays acquire pitcher Jose Soriano in trade with Angels
Blue Jays trade for Jose Soriano as Toronto adds a frontline arm Deadline deal sends three prospects to the Angels and boosts rotation depth
The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired righthanded pitcher Jose Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels before the MLB trade deadline, sending three prospects in return: infielder Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti Jr., and righthanded pitcher Angel Rivero.
Soriano, 27, has gone 96 with a 3.29 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 22 starts this season. He was named the American League pitcher of the month for March and April after a strong start, and he has built a 2627 career record with a 3.72 ERA over four seasons.
Toronto also made another deadline move by trading pitcher Adam Macko to the Texas Rangers for infielder Josh Smith and righthanded pitcher Josh Stephan. The changes came after the Blue Jays dealt pitcher Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs a day earlier, as the club shifted into seller mode with its playoff chances fading.
