Heat and air quality warnings expand across Canada

Heat and wildfire smoke warnings have expanded across much of Canada as high temperatures continue into the weekend and early week. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued alerts stretching from Regina to Winnipeg and across parts of Ontario and Quebec. The most serious orangelevel warnings are in the Winnipeg and Thunder Bay areas, with parts of northern Quebec also under orange alert. Officials say southern Manitoba is facing a multiday heat event through Monday, with temperatures above 35 C expected on Sunday and Monday and humidex values in the mid40s. In some areas, the combination of heat and humidity could make it feel as hot as 45 C. Air quality warnings are also in place in parts of Ontario because of wildfire smoke, including in Oshawa, where residents are being advised to limit time outdoors. Whitehorse and Yellowknife are under yellow air quality warnings.
