Ronald St. Pierre named Canada’s Chef of the Year

Comox Valley restaurateur Ronald St. Pierre has been named Canada’s Chef of the Year by the Canadian Culinary Federation, recognizing his long career in B.C.’s restaurant scene and his work promoting local ingredients. St. Pierre cofounded Locals Restaurant in 2008 and helped build one of the region’s bestknown farmtotable businesses. He later handed the restaurant to new owners in 2023, but remains active in the industry through mentoring and board work. In his interview with CBC, St. Pierre said the Comox Valley shaped his approach to food by connecting him more closely with farmers and local producers. He also said rising supply costs and climate pressures have made local sourcing more competitive, while encouraging more awareness of where food comes from.
