Canadian fugitive arrested in Colombia on drug and gun-smuggling charges

Canadian fugitive arrested in Medellín after a 3-year manhunt Police say he was wanted in Canada and the U.S.; see how the case unfolded

A Canadian fugitive identified as Arif Jhuman was arrested in Medellín, Colombia, while at a gym, authorities said Wednesday. Jhuman had been on the run for more than three years and was also wanted in the United States over an alleged crossborder firearmsmuggling conspiracy. Colombian police said he was taken into custody after an operation involving local security forces and Interpol. Officials said he may have entered Colombia using false identification documents, and Medellín’s mayor said the city was not a refuge for criminals. Canadian authorities had already listed Jhuman as wanted for breaching parole after a previous conviction for drug trafficking. U.S. prosecutors say he is one of five people charged in a case involving the movement of more than 100 firearms from Florida to Canada between 2023 and 2024.
