Ontario courts affected by data breach after unauthorized activity on case platform
Ontario court data breach affects C-Track records and raises security concerns Check details on what was exposed, what's secure, and the ongoing investigation
Ontario’s top judges say the province’s court system was affected by a data breach tied to unauthorized activity on Thomson Reuters Canada’s CTrack case management platform.
According to a statement posted on Sept. 2, the cybersecurity incident began on June 30, when Thomson Reuters detected unusual activity on the system used to store and manage some court documents and records. The company said it took steps to contain the incident and reviewed what information may have been accessed.
The judges said some court information was involved, but there is no evidence so far of identity theft. They also said there is currently no indication that systems used to process financial transactions for court proceedings were affected. The investigation is still ongoing, and Thomson Reuters says it has added extra security measures.
