Report links U.S. university research to Chinese connected-car technology

China vehicle-road-cloud research raises U.S. security concerns See how UW-Madison-linked work could affect connected-car risk

A new report says researchers at the University of WisconsinMadison worked on projects linked to China’s vehicleroadcloud technology, a system that connects cars, roadside sensors and cloud platforms for traffic monitoring and vehicle control. The report, shared with Fox News Digital before publication, says the technology has already been deployed in China and later became part of national standards and pilot programs involving several Chinese ministries. U.S. officials have warned that similar connectedvehicle systems could create security risks by exposing sensitive driver data or allowing remote vehicle manipulation. The report does not accuse UWMadison of deliberately passing technology to Chinese security agencies, but argues that the research helped advance a dualuse system with civilian, surveillance and security applications. UWMadison has not yet publicly responded to the claims.
