Kingston likely to get stop on Toronto-Quebec City high-speed rail line

The CEO of Alto, the Crown corporation planning a highspeed rail line between Toronto and Quebec City, says Kingston, Ontario, is likely to be included as a stop after public feedback pointed to strong demand. Martin Imbleau said the proposed stop appears practical because Kingston is a large community with strong ridership potential. He added that not every train would stop there, as some service would run express between larger cities. The route is still being refined. Alto plans to seek public input on the MontrealtoOttawa section this fall, with the TorontotoOttawa stretch — including Kingston — to follow. The overall line would connect several major cities and use electric trains that could reach 300 km/h. The project has support from Kingston and South Frontenac mayors, but some landowners and residents along the route have raised concerns about local impacts. The federal government has said it wants to keep reviewing the Kingston option, while critics have questioned the cost and timeline of the project.
