Valérie Plante joins Université de Montréal to teach democracy and climate policy See how the former Montreal mayor will mentor students and shape public events

Valérie Plante, Montreal’s former mayor, is joining Université de Montréal this fall as a guest expert in the Faculty of Arts and Science’s Maison des affaires publiques et internationales. The university said Plante will lead lectures and public events, mentor graduate students and help contribute to faculty courses. Her focus will include democracy, citizen participation and climate change. Plante, a UdeM graduate, said the school helped shape her political thinking. She served as Montreal mayor from 2018 to 2025 and previously said she would not seek a third term. Since leaving office, she has also been working on a novel scheduled for release this month.
