Eli Lilly to seek approval for retatrutide in 2027 after trial results

Retatrutide shows strong weight loss in late-stage obesity trials and diabetes Lilly aims for 2027 approval as it finalizes manufacturing data

Eli Lilly said it plans to file for approval of its nextgeneration obesity drug, retatrutide, in the first quarter of 2027 after the treatment posted positive results in two more latestage trials. The studies tested adults with obesity and either Type 2 diabetes or established cardiovascular disease. In both trials, the weekly injection led to substantial weight loss and improvements in blood sugarrelated measures, according to the company. Lilly had previously expected to submit the drug for approval sooner, but said it needs more time to finalize manufacturing and qualitycontrol data for regulators. The company is also positioning retatrutide for possible use in obesity, knee osteoarthritis pain and obstructive sleep apnea.
