Quebec IT project faces scrutiny over possible budget overrun
Quebec IT project budget criticism grows as Santé Québec’s SIFA nears $1B See why Fréchette faces pressure after new reports revive SAAQclic concerns
Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette is facing criticism after reports said another provincial IT project may end up far above its original budget.
A RadioCanada investigation found that Santé Québec’s digital transformation project, known as SIFA, was first expected to cost $96 million but is now being reevaluated at about $1 billion.
The report drew criticism from political opponents, including Parti Québécois and Québec Solidaire representatives, who said the government should review how major technology projects are planned and managed. The issue has revived concerns about previous Quebec IT failures, including the SAAQclic rollout.
