Olympian David Hearn indicted in Reflecting Pool case

U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn has been indicted in Washington, D.C., on a felony destructionofproperty charge tied to damage at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Prosecutors say Hearn, 67, allegedly pulled up and removed part of the pool’s liner on June 19, causing damage estimated at about two square feet. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said the case carries a potential maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if he is convicted in D.C. Superior Court. Hearn has denied vandalizing the site, saying after his arrest that he only touched a partially detached piece of liner while stopping to look at the pool. His lawyers said he is innocent and called the indictment politically motivated.
