Winnipeg woman rescues father and toddler from Red River

Winnipeg river rescue hero saves toddler and father from Red River in North End Woman says she is recovering after CPR, bravery, and a dramatic rescue

A Winnipeg woman says she is recovering after rescuing a toddler and the child’s father from the Red River in the city’s North End on Aug. 24. Jayclyn Morrissette was walking near St. John’s Park when she saw a young girl in the water. After the father jumped in to help and did not resurface, Morrissette entered the river, helped bring him back to shore with support from her neighbour, and then returned to rescue the child. Police said Morrissette and her neighbour performed CPR before first responders arrived. The girl was taken to hospital in critical condition, later stabilized, and is expected to recover fully. Morrissette said she has had nightmares and is dealing with injuries, but she is thankful everyone survived.
