Stock futures fall as chipmakers slide and earnings loom
U.S. stock futures fall as chipmakers slide ahead of earnings and CPI data. Track the latest market moves, oil gains, and what could shake stocks next.
U.S. stock futures were lower Monday as semiconductor shares came under pressure and investors looked ahead to a busy week of earnings and inflation data.
S&P 500 futures fell 0.4%, Nasdaq100 futures dropped 1%, and Dow futures were down 85 points. Chipmakers were among the weakest names in premarket trading, with SK Hynix, Micron, Sandisk, Seagate, AMD, and Intel all lower.
Markets also reacted to renewed tensions in the Middle East after the U.S. and Iran exchanged strikes over the weekend. Oil prices rose, while gold and Treasury yields moved little as traders balanced geopolitical risk against upcoming reports from major banks, Netflix, Johnson & Johnson, and UnitedHealth. The June CPI reading is due Tuesday.
