The federal government will provide $71 million over four years to expand youth mental health services in Quebec, with the funding announced on Monday as part of Canada’s Youth Mental Health Fund.
The money will support services delivered through Santé Québec in partnership with the province and will be used to strengthen Aire ouverte, a network of walkin centres for people ages 12 to 25. These centres offer access to nursing care, mental health support and social services.
Health officials say demand is rising as more young people face problems linked to housing and food insecurity, isolation and other social pressures. Quebec plans to add more sites to the network, including new locations and a mobile unit.
